Hi Steve, do you have to use the 72 part with the correct holes/threads for the 72 hood latch etc? The other models and years will work, you'd have to rework the mounting of the latch though.

Called all of these guys. So frustrating dealing wih morons everyday. The guy in NJ told me he had it and would call me back the next day everyday for two weeks. Then after two weeks says he doesn't have it. Bunch of young kids who could care less about customers. Anyway thanks for the leads. Bak to the hunt.

There is a radiator support for sale from a '73 to '76 torino ranchero. But i do not know what is different about it when compared to a '72 gran torino radiator support. Maybe one of the other members might know.

The two pictures below compare the '72 support to the '73 support. The '72 support is the one on top and the '73 support is below the '72 support.

In the pictures below it might appear that the '72 support is slightly taller in the area of the hood latch area than the '73 support. But maybe it is because of the different angles that the pictures were taken on. The '72 support is on top and the '73 support is below.

According to the members below the two supports are very similar or almost the same.

I swapped a 72 front end onto my 73 in 1989, the radiator supports are functionally the same. I had two spare 72 Sport front ends, one the radiator support was rusted badly and I scrapped it. I think I used my 73 support for the swap, coating it before the swap. I lost track of the other support, I don't have that spare anymore.

There is a member that used a radiator support from a '74 gran torino on his 1977 thunderbird, and he said that it fit with no issues. I might be able to find the thread if you want me to.

The pictures below compare a '72 gran torino support to a 1979 ranchero support. The '72 support is on top and the '79 support is below the '72 support. They appear to be almost identical.

Thanks again Pete. I would buy his if I knew for a fact that it will work for what I need. Mine is like a lot of these, its rusted in the left lower section where the body mount is. I just need that section. I plan to cut out the bad part and weld in a new piece. Does anyone know if this support for a 79 Ranchero is the same as a 72 in that area??
Thanks

I'm sure you can use another support from the many mid sized 70's Fords to repair your 1972 part. I thought they were all the same until someone in another thread posted that the top center area might have different bolt holes due to the differing hood latch brackets. I didn't notice any real difference in my 72 versus 73 supports, but that was in 1988 when I did that swap. I'd bet the rest is all the same, maybe some odd unseen bolt holes for the inner fenders could have changed a hair over the years.

Your welcome. There is a picture below of the lower section where the body mount is, the radiator support below is original from a 1979 ranchero.

Sekcobra,

Is the rust in the “lower left” as you look at it in a pic, or do you mean lower left as in “driver side”?

Can you show me a definitive pic of what is bad on yours, and I can compare to my partial core support to see if it’s the corner I have it not?

Well, unless I’m looking at things wrong, it sure looks like mine has the section you need.  Take another look at the pic I sent you... it was sent to your inbox back on March 26.
