I am considering swapping out my points distributor on my '72 wagon for a later model Duraspark. Does anyone know a quick and easy way to do this? I had thought about getting one for, say, an '81 Fairmont w/a 250 and mock up the wiring with a hidden box. Might have to swap the coils as well.
I just dislike points on a daily driver, and am trying to get the most out of my six. |

Great!! I didn't think they made them for a lowly 6.

Actually, just checked - Mallory makes the vacuum advance Unilite distributor for all the standard six's.
A much more expensive solution, but it is nice to know they offer them!

the mallory units are great...i have installed more than one. the oem units don't get proper lube in long service and wobble and need to be rebuilt. Napa sells rebuilts fairly cheap. Get one of those and a pertronix unit(and the matching coil). NEARLY AS GOOD,

You can squeeze a lot of ponies out of a six, without spending a lot of money!

In Mavericks, early Falcons and early Mustangs the 200 was great. Not so much in the late 70s Granadas, Fairmonts and Mustangs, but they do have Duraspark.

Yes & No. The later heads had better flow through the "log" intake, but the compression went way-way down. I took a a 1976 head, put larger stainless steel intake/exhaust valves and milled 0.060 off the head. I also used 1.6:1 rockers (Jeep six banger). Stock rockers are 1.5:1.
Headers with dual exhaust. And, recurved a 1978 Dura Spark distributor.
I gutted the control module (was burned out), and mounted an HEI 4-pin module. |
