4.6 2v and 3v have coils running down the engine at the top edge of the valve covers. 4.6 4v has covers dead center of the valve covers with the coils and plugs under them. |

Ever seen one of the 1960s GMC V6 with the spark plugs in the intake side of the heads? 4.6/5.4 are in a similar location. They are at the top of the valve covers, by the intake/injectors, not down by the exhaust, under coil-on-plug units or with little plug wires leading to coil packs. If this is in an F150, they are mostly under the cowl.

you if it's coil on plug (COP) you need to remove the 8 individual coils to access the spark plugs
and be very careful when you tighten the plugs back in. not too tight not too loose, just right! actually the tricks start before you even remove the plugs, on a warm/hot engine i would gently tighten each plug first before i try to loosen it. this'll break any tension/seizure that might be in the threads here's not too bad page on the subject

Be so careful with the plugs. I cannot stress that enough. Liberal use of penetrating oil around them overnight, crack them loose with an impact set to it's lowest setting, and carefully remove them. Hopefully yours are not the 2 piece plugs and you have the revised heads that contain more threads.
