I am looking for a picture of a stock 1973 Torino 429 air cleaner set up. I want to have one for the stock look when going to car shows but haven't been able to find a pic on the web. thanks - dave

I don't have a Torino pic, but here is one from a 1973 LTD, which I believe is the same for the most part. The 400 powered cars also used the same sized air cleaner. ![]() |

My first Torino had the 1973 429-4V. It looked like the 1972 version, but it had a Hemholtz resonator about 180 degrees opposite the snorkle. The resonator was made (literally!) from the same can used on FL-1 Motorcraft oil filters.
I had the great pleasure of working for a time in the early 2000's with the retired head of Ford powertrain and he confirmed that my thoughts were accurate about the filter housing being used. Not sure if they used this arrangement on anything other than the 73 model, but it might have shown up on 460's afterward. The resonator was to reduce engine air intake noise. Other than adding a tiny bit of weight it didn't reduce engine performance (or help it). Randy 72GTS now

I've seen those in some pics, always wondered what their purpose was, thanks, Randy.

If I remember correctly, the aluminum air cleaners started in '79 or 80 with the LTD body change.
