Last week there was an NOS tailgate weatherstrip for a 72-76 Torino wagon that was sold on Ebay for a lil over $200. I found out this weatherstrip also fits an LTD II and Mercury Montego wagon as well. Did anyone on this sight win the auction??? I didn't bid on it, but now I wish I had.
Also just in case it isn't clear I am still in need of one so if anyone knows where I can find one please let me know. I have tried the part vendors on this sight, but have come up unsuccessful. Thanks in advance. Edited by gpd294 - 14-March-2009 at 5:06AM |

Well I have looked high and low without any success so the next best thing is to refurbish the one I have the best I can. I have thoroughly washed the rubber piece and figured out that the metal pinching"doo-dads" that hold the piece to the tailgate opening (car body) is rusted through in some places.
Do any of you have a trashed piece that I could possibly use to create one good one? If so I would love to have it. Please send me a PM with what you have. My wagon is at the paint shop and am looking forward to putting her back together. Any help would be appreciated.

Carlos,
I'm planning a trip to a bone yard in South Carolina sometime in the next few weeks. I know they have some station wagons there. Anything else you are looking for? I'll keep you updated as to when I'm heading out.

Just FYI guys, I found an NOS tailgate rubber weatherstripping at a very reasonable price. Keep your eyes open and keep searching for what you need, eventually it'll come up somewhere.
1-15-2010 The weatherstrp arrived today and it looks fantastic. I had already scraped up enough "used" tailgate weatherstrips to repair one good one, but I was lucky to find this NOS one. It definitely makes my life easier. Now onto the other "hard to find" parts. Edited by gpd294 - 15-January-2010 at 11:20AM |

This is not mine, but it's on EBAY right now at $325 starting bid.
Good luck, in case anyone still needs one: |

Nice. Thanks for sharing. I could definitely used that for my wagon. But, not in the budget right now. Focusing my money and efforts on the formal roof, right now.

i've been bitten too many times snoozing on an item that i thought i'd have time / opportunity to buy when the time is right down the road. i'll go out on the ledge and say there's higher probability that they'll disappear off the face of the earth rather than become more readily available and cheaper

That is very likely true a lot. I was collecting a lot of new parts for my 98 Mountaineer before it was ten years old, Ford was obsoleting most parts that soon back then. I bought many good parts, but I forgot to get enough window and glass seals, the rear hatch seals became unobtainable right after the 2008 range. So that kind of seal might be one of the last anyone will see that isn't very used. Rock, how many nice tail lights have you seen for the station wagons and Ranchero's? Those in used form are pitiful generally. Jeff, try to start an informal "fund me page" here in a thread, I'll donate $20 gladly to help you.

I didn't see a "fund me" thread started here after two days, and it was still available, so I went ahead and scooped it up. The one on my wagon now is a mixture of a generic roll of car weatherstrip from AutoZone and peel-and-stick foam weatherstrip from Home Depot, so hopefully the actual correct seal will keep water out and will lessen the wind noise on the freeway. Thank you for posting the link.
