I've been buying up 9" 3rd members I see popup online cheap... have a 2.75:1 28 spline opem in my 76 Elite... just grabbed the 3.55:1 out of a 64 Galaxie on the left sadly open dif as well... and have the 3.25:1 open on the right.Either will be an upgrade, definitely leaning towards throwing the 3.55:1 in there. I hear mixed info on the case on the left about being stronger and weaker... seems the extra rib would be stronger 🤷♂️ more meat. Sadly neither are Nodular iron... What kind od "posi" traction-loc unit you recommend? Is really hate to run open diff especially when stepping up from 2.75 to 3.55.... I think both tires need to boil I would not want to run anything steeper than 3.60 MAYBE 3.75:1 I want decent highway/cruise abilities Ok 2nd question: my sending unit doesnt send... its so accesible... pull it out and try to clean contacts? I found one on a website but wish I could just rockauto or Amazon Prime one. Any sources for sending units? Thanks

IMO if you're buying new, any of the truetrac helical gear limited slips are 2nd to none compared to all the other options. With good/clean fluid there is nothing to wear out in them unlike any clutch type unit.
Unless you're racing, then go with a detroit locker or full spool. Buying used you'll have to jump on whatever deal you can find.

I'm spring for new parts to throw into the housings.
Sadly, my elder friend who has rebuilt hundreds of 9" rears (had a shop for 40 years) passed away yesterday right as I was asking the question. He had all the stuff to do everything and was going to walk me through everything 😞 Anyhow, I know there's companies out there selling posi traction loc clutch style nodularnfully assembled setups for $880 (see them in FB ads all the time). Thats a ready to go setup... think theyr clutch style and have to run clutch modifier though...

The True Trac was near $600 on Amazon the last time I looked. The typical 70's 9" housing is strong enough for anything but very serious racing. If you buy something used, be very sure it's the exact diff you are after. There were several and many look almost alike, the 9 3/8" housing for example. If you buy a new diff, also consider the axles, it's easy to change to 31 spline if you buy the three as a group.
