pulled the tags off both 9 inch rear ends I have in the garage.

the 72 Montego tag reads
WEB-AD        2BD
2.75       9    812A

the 77 Ranchero GT500 tag reads
WEB-BH        7JB
2.50       9    810A

does this mean the Montego has a 2.75 ratio and the 77 Ranchero has a 2.50?
Were either of these limited slip or posi? Doubt it with those gears!!!

If I put the AOD in the Torino with the 77 rear end with 2.50 and big 275/60/15 on the back I would be at idle running the highway!!! Lean out the low end of the carb and get 20 PLUS MPG with that set up! But it will take a mile to get up to speed!lol

Yes on your first question.
To be LSD it would read
2L75 & 2L50 respectively.

well that BLOWS!

these huge cars with all that weight and they have a stupidly high ratio!
Guess they needed that with the 3 speed trans of the day in order to run down the road at a fairly decent RPM while cruising.

you could build the AOD into a 4R70W and have a decent ratio off the line, and the advantage of OD down the road

E4OD planets work in a C6 the same way, but no OD
