Started on the list of snags on my Torino. 1st task was to replace the ancient headlamps with new units. Managed to get all four out but two of the retaining rings have had their hold-down clips snap off.
Where do you guys like to source replacement parts from. I have found new rings here: https://restorationpartssource.com/store/Torino_1968_1969.htm I have found https://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_fairlane_torino and Any experience with either? From the vendors forum, most comments about “macsautoparts” are about delivery times and lost parts. |

Hello. Very common issue over the years, and chasing new retaining rings just about every time i would change a headlight got to be a real pain. Now I clamp them together with a needle nose vise grip, drill an 1/8th inch hole where the spot weld was and rivet them back together. make sure the steel nail or pin is not still in the rivet, then hammer & dolly the rivet flat. Takes about 10 minutes and you are back in business. When I was replacing them, they were still available from Ford and in junk yards, now ebay and places like Green Sales or Stillwell Obsolete are your best bet for new ones. Mike H. |

Good challenge for my welding practice.
I have located a yard in my area who may have some rings. Owner suggested soldering the clips on. Looks like I have something to do today

Spot welders are pretty cheap. Come in handy.
