The bumpers on my '68 are straight and pit/rust free, but they look severely weathered. I am thinking at some point they will be re-chromed, but at this point in it's progress, as well as budget, it's not super high on the pecking order.

Does anyone have any experience polishing weathered chrome? Any techniques or product suggestions? Doesn't need to be show-quality (unless that is possible!), just looking for any means to brighten it up and make them a bit more presentable for a few months (or years).

I was told rubbing it with a ball of aluminum foil would do the trick, but I'm not 100% sold on that.

My Uncle turned me onto that but not a ball. Use like a rag. I've used resin glaze as it lifts dirt out. Toothbrush for cracks/joints.

There are many Chrome Polish Specific products at the parts store.
I used the cheap stuff on the bikes and worked well!
might take some elbow grease but it works!!

I just picked up this NEW Product at the World of Wheels show called Sheen Genie... AMAZING STUFF!!!

You should see what just a LITTLE bit does to an Aluminum Beer Keg! O M G!!
I am waiting for the weather to get better and do the detailing on my Slots with it!

....Try this out....even though the link is for Aluminum slotted wheels it will work for the chrome bumpers....keep in mind that it is the oxidation that is dulling your Chrome bumpers..I was able to get the "clean" Aluminum slotted wheel that is pictured polished to an almost new, mirrored finish a few days after I took this picture...it can be done with a little effort.... keep in mind these wheels were submerged in filthy dirty flood water for a period of time.Dead
As long as you are not dealing with any pitting, you should be able to skip over the sanding parts....unless you want to wet sand any scratches with some 2000 grit paper.

Aluminum foil dipped into a bowl full of Coke.. I do this on wheels before I sell them and on bumpers to bring them back. Removes rust pitting (the stain, not the pit) as well.
