I have a 1971 torino 500 with a 302, c4 tranny. Car drives fine but wants to shift into passing gear around 25mph. Kick down adjustment screw on carb is not the problem. Could it be the modulator valve? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Possibly the kickdown rod got bent.they are bent a certain way to clear the back of the motor and go down to the kickdown lever if the bends get extended it will kick down the trans .If you squeeze or compact the bends it will shorten the rod length giving it a higher kickdown speed that is also what the adjustment screw does is fine tunne when the kickdown engages for passing when you stomp on the accelerater hard
