I managed to fix the choke pull off mechanism. The small rod had a locking washer which I was able to lock back on. I put a drop of strong glue on top of the washer. Should be secure now.

Anyway…..to what vacuum source does the choke pull off connect?

I want to connect it to the manifold vacuum fitting behind the carb…is this the correct position? Thanks.

Yes it should be direct manifold vacuum

sometimes right at the base of the carb to reduce the number of hoses winding about, but make sure it's manifold vac

It doesn't really matter where your source the manifold vacuum, unless you are trying to replicate the factory.  We have vacuum diagrams here:
