I wont be surprised if I get lynched for this idea.
What about a Cummins B series 5.9? would that be a decent possibility? My dad wrote that dang repair Manuel for the B series so it's not like I wouldn't know were to get help with the engine. is just mounting and how the suspension would take it.
remember this is just an idea.
opinions?

I would like to put a 7.3 powerstroke in a Torino. A Cummins 5.9 is a tall engine. I would measure the height (among other things).

some day I will have a 7.3 powerstroke ranchero. you will most likely have to make custome motor mounts and will definitly have to beef up the suspention. definetly would be a sweet idea. you would probably need any electrical that goes with it as well.

It's not so bad once you get used to it.

I'm a fan of the old IDI engines. Wouldn't mind a 6.9 Ranchero some day.

I've often wondered about putting the BMW turbodiesel Ford used in 80's Mark VII's. More HP than the stock six and better mileage. The motor actually weighs the same as the 250 so no suspension upgrades needed. Just a aftermarket AOD transmission crossmember and shortening the driveshaft. Plus custom motor mounts. Big problem would be finding one since it was only offered (I think) 2 years and was not popular. It would be different.

Oh yeah, the above post is about putting one in a Maverick, not a Torino.

Looking at getting a 7.3 truck from Kevin. I'll either put that drivetrain in my F100 or my wagon. Heavy, but not a whole lot more than the 429 it has now.

I wonder how difficult the EPA would make things if I wanted to bring over a common rail diesel from a Euro model car. I know if the car is 25 years or older its exempt, but I think the rules are different for just the engine. The 2.0 liter 4-cylinder diesel Ford puts in Mondeos and minivans in the UK puts out 163hp and 251tq. That betters the stock 302/351 engines and is nearly equal to a 400-2V. From a two liter FOUR cylinder! They've been available since 2007 but I'm not sure it would be easy to import one even if it is going in a very old car.
