A question: When I am looking for hard to find parts for the 66 Cyclone, how many parts interchange-such as torque boxes, frame rails, and quarter panels? Do Mustang front frame rails match up. Looks like I am screwed on this car unless I can fix it well and sell....
When I mention the Fairlane, I mean, when I look through the Dearborn/Eklers catalog when they mention what I think as "generic" parts like floor pans, torque boxes, etc... do they work on both cars? Edited by foote500 - 11-March-2014 at 2:39PM |

All mechanical, suspension, windows & trim, doors, seats(different pattern) & console parts are the same. Body parts are different. Front bumper is the same but I think the rear is a little different. Floor pans & torque boxes are the same. You might be able to use 67-70 Mustang frame rails, they are pretty close fit.

Well, it did not sell, so I am "all in" going forward. Just placed an order for two quarters and two torque boxes. Front seats are next on the purchase list. I have a local guys I know who has a 66 dated 390 block. He looked at the Cyclone and said the toploader was from a later Fairlane most likely, says I need one that is not so long, because the shifter is too far back, I do not even know what or where to look for as far as that goes. If that makes sense to anyone let me know or explain it in layman's terms to me.

That stuff is all easy to find and I have a bunch of parts you might need....the tail shaft is not a big deal, I have a 429 trans in my Fairlane and the shifter fits in the same spot, or you can get a new output shaft and tail housing.. if it's a Galaxie trans the shifter won't match up.....make a list.

Also thinking of getting rid of the regular front suspension and going with a rack and pinion.

I don't know what my deal is, but I have fantasies about resurrecting this car. I have to go back and take a closer look at what the underside looks like after sitting for so long. I think about the parts that could be harvested and sold, but then I start to think about the fact that there just aren't many like this still around. Would be easy to convert to a four speed floor shift.

That's a cool looking yard. Would love to walk around that place.
'65 Fairlane's are pretty hard to find. That was a one-year body style. Plus it's a Sports Coupe. Would be neat to see it saved. Any chance it's a K code?

I really love the black '65 Galaxie. Sure wish ours was a '65 instead of a '67. Just cannot get the '67 to grow on me, although I have tried. The '65 has ALWAYS been my favorite full-sized Ford.

Funny you said that. I had mentioned selling the '67 to C last night and her response was a really awful look. I guess we owe it to the previous owner (and friend) who is now deceased to finish the car.
It is just such a LARGE car. |

I do not think this guy is doing very much with the old stuff, I think he is concentrating on late model stuff, the old stuff is for pickers. I intend on spending some of my summer picking the crap out of this place, starting with the Ranchero. I see, looking though some old photos that there are a ton of great grills, trim and misc. parts that could be useful to some other people. Some just because I want them for myself, or for my mantle at home. Here are some more pics...
