Hey guys,

Just surfing eBay seeing what's up and notice that Jack & Jill have a
set of the new deluxe trunk panels listed.

http://cgi.ebay. com/ebaymotors/ 1974-75-76- GRAN-TORINO- TRUNK-BOARD- KIT-SIDES-REAR-4pc_ W0QQitemZ2302664 28995QQcmdZViewI tem?hash=item230266428995&_trksid= p3286.m14. l1318

I got the first prototype set about three weeks ago and THEY FIT &
LOOKED PERFECT but there was a slight problem with the material they
were using on the face of the panels and I've not gotten the second
prototype set yet to see if the issue was resolved. Perhaps they got
it fixed and went ahead with production.

Maybe if someone, besides me asks, they will post a few pictures of
the new panels?

The original panels were the splotchy/speckled gray to match the
trunk carpet and spare tire cover, but I like the look of the black
panels a bit better so I'm toying with redying my trunk carpets
black. Haven't decided if I want to "deface" my original
carpets..... . decisions decisions!!

Well, I would say I could of used these when I had my old Elite project!
Good to see stuff like this being made.
Me, I'd just cover them in trunk carpet and call it good.

Hey gang,

Received the new set of prototypes today. Haven't had a chance to test fit them yet but I'll try and do that tomorrow (Friday) but for sure by Saturday evening... I'll post results. Fit isn't the issue it's the bending of the "flaps" that's causing the problems.

Psquare75, if memory serves me correctly, '77-'79 was merely a sheetmetal (and name) change and the chassis and underbody sheetmetal were pretty much the same so they should fit out of the box. They are still looking into fabricating the bracketry and providing the hardware as we speak. I'll advise once I know more about that aspect of the kit.

The trunk is different in the sense that the fuel filler neck is in the drivers quarter panel and goes through the trunk, and not over the center of the bumper. THe cardboards are totally different.

Roger that!
I stand corrected. Honestly, I don't ever remember looking closely at a '77-79 LTD II because I hated to see the Torino die! I'm sure if someone unearthed a set, like I did for the '72-76 Torino, they would entertain the idea of looking into reproducing it.
Heading over to the shop to check out the new panels in a while so I'll have some pics to share (if they are production ready) later this afternoon.

The new panels worked great with no problems forming them... they are shipped flat and you need to bend the flanges into shape. Just a heads up when forming them, GO SLOW AND TAKE YOUR TIME SO YOU DON'T OVER STRESS THE MATERIAL ALL AT ONCE AND CHANCE BREAKING THE SURFACE MATERIAL ON THE EDGE, ESPECIALLY THE FLANGES THAT BREAK AWAY FROM THE FINISHED SIDE.

The new material is black through and through with a smooth flat black face. Not as nice as the original shiny grained material of the first prototypes but it forms without cracking the surface (and if you rush it and do crack an edge it won't show like it did on the first set). Here are a few shots of them installed (please excuse the condition of my trunk....work in progress!!)

Now I need to figure out how to replicate the speckled gray finish of the original panels and get my carpets cleaned up!!

I found these for sale online in a few places but are listed 74-76.

Isn’t the trunk area the same for all 72-76 torino coupes and fastbacks?

I would like to order these for my 72 Fastback. They should fit right?

Just a heads up on these deluxe trunk panels is there are sheet metal brackets that facilitate mounting them securely to the tail light filler panel. I have pictures of the brackets and also think I drew up the brackets in AutoCAD so they could be reproduced.

I'll have a look and see if I can find those pics and the drawing....
