Hello,

I'm writing you from Paris, France.

Need your help guys. I have to change my drum for my 73 GT fastback Automatic transmission (Engine 351 Cleveland 2BBL).

I saw on rockauto different models and sizes of course, but it seems there's only one who will fit mine, it's the "RAYBESTOS 1659R" because it's 10inch and my drums are 10.060 IN it's written on it.

Do you think I have to take those Raybestos 1659R or I can get some different even if it's 11inch

Here are some pics of my drum

Thanks in advance.

Jessie.

The 10.060 is just the wear limit. It's a 10-inch drum (inside diameter). It's common to have brake drums or rotors "turned," which puts the drum on a machine to rotate it while a blade takes off some of the metal so the brake shoes have a perfectly round and true surface to press against. That makes the inside diameter a little bigger. If the inside diameter is greater than 10.060 inches, then it can't be turned any more times because that's the wear limit.

Switching to an 11-inch drum means you'd also need a new backing plate, new brake wheel cylinder, new springs, new shoes, etc. I'd say just get the 10-inch Raybestos ones.
1972 Gran Torino station wagon, light blue, 351C 2V, prior owner upgraded to 4V (2V heads), originally had a C4 but prior owner changed to C6 for some reason.

Thanks for your quick answer @Inkara1 !

I'll order the Raybestos and I already got new brake shoe, springs, brake wheel cylinder, etc.

Have a nice day or evening or both !

Jessie.
