So my 1970 Torino GT has a formal roof VIN in the dash. the fender apron tags are still there and show 0A108575. i would assume the correct VIN to be 0A35*108575 minus the engine code. Is there anywhere an old car nut can go to run a series of VIN numbers for free to find vehicle history other than paying for a Marti report? I would like to find out more about my Torino. No door tag either.

The vehicle in ? has been in my family for over 25 years and i finally talked my old man out of it and a 1970 formal roof parts car. only problem is, the parts car is complete and just needs a rear wheel bearing and tune up to get on the road. so i would like to find out what drivetrain should be in my GT to build it correcty. Any help to find out more about my Torino would be appreciated!

Other than a Marti, there is no other way that I know of running the VIN, short of having a friend at the DMV.

Looks like a Marti report is in my future.

I'm pretty sure our vehicles are in a black hole as far as history reports. A Marti report will tell you everything the car was equipped with from the factory, when it was built and sold, and (if you pay extra) how rare your car is given its particular option combination. But it won't tell you anything from after the car left the showroom. History reports like Carfax that give service and accident histories only cover cars with standardized 17-digit VINs, meaning 1981 and up.
