I have my rear axle apart right now and was thinking of installing a drain on the housing. Does anyone have recommendation for one that doesn't require welding?

you can do up to 1/2 inch I believe. Then get a plug with hex hole fir flush fit. Might find one with a magnet as well.

I didn't think the housing material was thick enough to tap. Did you just use a 1/4 NPT plug? Any gasket required?

I would use Rector Seal or Lue Magic. I suppose you could use a couple wraps of teflon tape too. When I resealed the duff I didn't think to add a drain. Sure keeps the floor a little cleaner. Lol

it's about 1/8" thick . remember NPT is tapered so only run the tap about half way in
![]() ![]() ![]() 1/4NPT or 1/8NPT will work going 3/8 or 1/2 would be too large of threads in that thin housing |

We drilled and plugged torque converters with 1/8" brass plugs after flushing.
