    Posted: 25-February-2014 at 8:54AM
Just sold the yellow '72 GTS and the red '72 GTS, so I have some space to work on my 4 speed. Does anyone know if there is a kit to hook a modular 4.6 Ford's 5 speed behind a Cleveland? I would really like to pull the Toploader out of my CJ and install something smoother and with an overdrive, and I have one of these just sitting dormant.

there's gotta be several or more sources for what you need in the Mustang world, I don't recall ATM the outfit that does custom mods to the case to adapt it to various applications, not sure you'd even need that service?

Cleveland uses 302/351W bellhousing, Rockatansky is right, the mustang world probably has what you need

The 4.6 has a t-45 and it has a bell housing that is part of the trans. It will only fit modular motors. I have not found any adapters. However the t-5 out of the fox you parted will fit with an adapter from modern driveline.

you could sell the mod motor 5 speed for quite a bit, and just buy the statndard t-5 stuff then

Bryan, I will keep the Toploader, since it is original to the car.

Allan, I appreciate the heads-up on the T45. Guess I will be hunting another T5 instead. The Fox GT's 5.0/5 speed are slated for use in another car, so I'll be searching CL once again.

With the Mallory setup, the Holley Projection and a 5 speed, this old car should be much nicer to drive.

Pete, the 4.6/5 speed out of the newer GT are probably going in my red wagon - I just happened onto a deal on some parts that included the extra T45. Honestly, I haven't even looked that transmission over well enough to realize it has a 1 piece case.

I found an article that suggests the bell patterns aren't as far off as we might think from the get-go. I think they're going the other way using a 5.0 bell on a 4.6, rather than drilling the locator dowel holes in the bell larger the dowels themselves could be turned to fit both sides?

might want to make you think somebody needs to yell Hey Y'all Watch This ?

http://www.corral.net/tech/drivetrain/bell1.htm

still leaves a lot of un-knowns on the input shaft length & throw-out

Well, I dropped the drivetrain out of the Mustang last night and found that the transmission does have a separate bellhousing. Surprise. I need to research bellhousings now for the additional T45 I have in the batch of extra parts.

If you take that bell housing off, the front gears will fall out. It is part of the trans. NOucho one makes one for different engines.
