Hello there, my name is James im 20 y.o.a and as the title says I recently bought a car I thought was cool since I was a kid. A 1976 Gran Torino it needs restoration with minimal rust too good to be any rust belt area car but other than a gas tank and about 1700$ at summit later ive got a fresh set of US polished slot mags and tires. the car runs and drives well ive put about 40 miles on it already meanwhile changing the color of the interior from white to black removed the tape deck to make way for something fresh and will draw some attention at a car show and sound like a concert inside. my plans are to make a Starksy and Hutch tribute car. as close to the general idea of the original cars from the show and not so much the movie. with the silver painted sight shields, middle bodyline and bumper rub-strips a with a not as aggressive stance but still like a 70 street machine the car has a 400 motor in it like some of the tv cars did its been rebuilt and somewhat hot-rodded internally with the exeption being electronic MSD 6al ignition distributor and coil (no hard bolt-ons ie. headers, 4 barrel, or intake ) the previous owner before the guy who sold it to me wrote (in 1994) that the car was bored and stroked and has a currently 10.1 compression ratio, ive got factory internals that were kept that prove these notes so i have no reason to doubt that the notes lie. after the motor was rebuilt he then said he ran the car on 103. Sunoco race gas and the motor had only 10,000 miles on it at the point the notes were written. The car was later purchased by the guy I bought it from and he said he only put about 12 miles on it in his ownership as he did not have the time and had his eyes on another car. he was also selling a few other cars at the time including a 1960 impala sport sedan in fair shape but also in need of tlc. back to my Gran Torino the car had history of how it spent it life so far written all over. it sat allot after the rebuild due to a dirty gas tank which had gummed up with crud (the gas tank on the car was one of the main bits of rust that the did car have, thankfully it never spread the cancer.) the previous carburetor which was replaced after a failed attempt to rebuild the original i imagine that's why they gave the car up as at the time I bought it she was being bottle fed to run. but it did run good enough that i drove it onto the trailer to bring it home once the gas tank was replaced and the lines were cleaned the car drove like new. anyway your now all caught up with me and my cars story up to this point. sorry if my writing is a little caddywompas. I tend to jump back and fourth allot.

Welcome aboard. Thanks for sharing your story. I have upgraded you to a new member so you have full forum privileges. Upload some pics of you Torino. I'd be curious what the owner stroked your 400 to displace and how the he got 10:1 compression out of it. Sounds like a pretty custom build.

Welcome to the group. Your going to find a lot of good information here and probably a few parts. I'm in Florida with a red '76, black interior. I would like to have a white interior down here! Post pictures when you can. We enjoy our pictures.
