Is there a difference?  the difference ive noticed is that towards the back (near the windshield)
on the 70 GT hood theres a grate (or vent) and its not there on the 71. is that true ?

Yes I think that this is partially true, but I had always thought that the 1971 hoods had the grate-vent on the hood originally from the ford factory and the 1970 did not.
The grate-vent on the hoods were definetely a one year only thing.
One of the other forum members might be able to answer this question.
Many of the owners of these cars have probably changed the hoods on these cars, in the past 43 to 44 years though.

Another difference between the 1970 and 1971, was that the 1970 had different color front fender marker lights than the 1971 model.

The 1970 had clear lenses with amber-orange light bulbs, while the 1971 had amber-orange lenses with clear light bulbs

Another difference between the 1970 and 1971 Torino models was the front grill. The picture below is a 1970 grill.
The picture below is of a 1971 Torino Front Grill.
Notice that the 1970 Torino has a round center Grill Emblem, as in the picture below.

The picture below is of a rectangular 1971 Torino front Grill Emblem.

You can see an original 1970 Fairlane front grill in the picture below.

That is incorrect. 71's have no grate and 70's have the grate.
