I peaked at the radio today and I'm not sure how to remove the knobs. Anybody has a tip?

i believe they just pull straight off, but the wiper and the heater control knobs have a little metal clip on the back that has to be held forward while sliding them off, the radio might be like that, but i don't think so.
are you getting those rear belts out while you're removing the radio for him too???

Yeah, It's a Hybrid...It burns gas and tires. No matter how good she looks, somebody, somewhere, is tired of her sh*t. Beauty is skin deep, ugliness goes clear to the bone. |

After you remove the two knobs, there might be those two nuts that you will have to remove, in order for you to remove the radio from the vehicle.

Some of the things that i have seen people use to remove those nuts are:
1) 2 small screwdrivers placed on either sides of the shaft nut and turn, then once it is slightly loose, you hold the back of the radio while turning the nut with 1 screwdriver. 2) The Divot correction tool that the people who play golf use (looks like 2 prongs attached to a wide blade). There is a picture below of a divot tool. I have also seen some people use needlenose pliers. They had used the ends like a spanner wrench and pushed out with the tips instead of squeezing to turn the nut. They also make a special tool for those radio nuts. Its the same tool to remove power antennas. I have seen them at Matco tools and at napa. To see one for sale Click here.

I have also seen some people unscrew the face plate and remove the radio and face plate in one piece. Once it's out, you can easily remove the round nuts by hand. There are two screws above the radio, and two in the ash tray below.

You can also use a small flat head screwdriver and a hammer to loosen the radio knob nuts. Just tap the nut on the edge with the screwdriver and it should loosen up.
I had also seen someone make his own radio nut removal tool. There is a picture below. ![]() |

I use needle nose pliers or two small screwdrivers. Jiggling the radio from behind will aid in removal of those nuts.

This is the method I use, very easy, and no risk of stripping the nuts or damaging the dash.
