My package tray in the Cougar is pretty badly sun beaten. You can see hints of black color left here and there, but I can't tell what the original finish was.
Were they just painted? Or some kind of film or vinyl? |

I believe they were just painted black. Check out my progress update thread for what I did with mine. http://forum.grantorinosport.org/75granmans-gran-torino-w-3k_topic6099_page3.html

I made a new one. you can see mine on my thread about Lola Mae.
I used the old one, traced it on to a piece of 3/16" Masonite(might have been 1/4"). Used the jigsaw and cut it out. marked where the original speaker grates were. Traced the template that came with the new 6x9 Kenwoods, cut them out. flipped the borad over on to a piece of MARINE VINYL, this is available in a few colors right on the roll at Jo-Ann Fabrics. Traced the outline AND the holes for the speakers. Cut the outline leaving over an inch extra material so it will wrap around the edges. Lay the fabric on a smooth table, spray with 3M #77 Spray Adhesive, also sprayed the panel. Place the panel on the vinyl, flip it over so the vinyl side is up, work it and stretch it tight to get out any wrinkles, bubble or bumps. Flip the vinyl side back down(careful you do not have any glue on the table before flipping on to the vinyl again). Spray the edge of the bottom side of the panel and start wrapping the extra material over the edge and it is glued on that line underneath. Use a pair of scissors to cut slots in the extra material to let it lay flat. CAREFUL, do not cut to close to the edge!!! Leave 1/4" or so. this will avoid being able to see the cuts as they wrap around the edge. You will even have to cut triangle shape pieces out so you do not have fabric on fabric as you stretch and wrap in the corners. Same in the speaker holes. Pizza wedge shaped triangles allow the material to lay flat. PRESTO! NEW color coded vinyl package tray! They also sell new replacements through Dearborn or Macs for about $40. But those are just the original cardboard style. I am going to buy one so I can make a GOOD template for future projects.
