New member here from Kansas City. I've been restoring old motorcycles for several years, and now that my last kid will be going away to college next fall, I'll have some free garage space so I can move up to cars.
My first car was a 71 Torino formal roof with a 302. I drove it a couple of years in high school and then upgraded to another 71 Torino, this time a Cobra with 429cj and C6. I absolutely loved that car and still have dreams about it sometimes. I got in a lot of trouble with it too. As soon as my garage opens up and I can find a nice project, I'll be back in the driver's seat. |

Thanks for the heads up, Johnny. I'm a few months out from starting the search, but I'll keep it in mind. I may eventually be in touch.

What a long strange trip it's been! As I'd mentioned above,
I've been looking for a 70-71 Torino for quite awhile, hoping to relive my
youth. Those are evidently hard to find, and in the meantime (2021), I stumbled
across a 68 Cougar XR-7. It was rough, but mostly complete. I've spent the last
four years getting it streetable, and then replacing floor pans, paint and
body, etc. I think it turned out pretty well. Last winter I rebuilt a 351w
roller and got it in and running this spring. I’ve also upgraded to an AOD
transmission and a 3.55 limited slip differential. Really woke it up! Before
and after pics below.
The Cougar’s pretty much done, so I started looking for a Torino again. I wasn’t able to find a reasonable deal on a 70-71, but I did find a 69 GT that had been almost completely disassembled. The PO had started replacing floor pans and then lost interest. It should be complete, although most if it is in boxes. Everything is labeled and tagged and it came with a lot of new parts. This should keep me out of the wife’s hair for the foreseeable future. I’ll eventually start a build thread, but here are a couple of “as found” pictures. Wish me luck!

Ditto, those are both great looking cars. I always liked the Cougars too, I never could decide which I like the exteriors and interiors the best on.
