Any of you have a "go to" favorite tool when you need to hook up / disconnect individual wires into a terminal? I was considering the Lisle (LIS57780)
Terminal Tool for Ford but figured I would run it by the pros here. |

I simply use a paperclip with the longest leg straightened out and use that end to go into the connector and press the retaining barb. May take a couple tries but it's always worked on my wiring projects.

Tried and true, that was all my old man ever used. I didn't know if during my 30 year absence working on these things if Ronco or George Foreman invented something that worked better

I have that Lisle tool and strongly recommend it. With that being said, you may still find a paperclip and/or picks will also come in handy. However the tool is helpful and worth it to help minimize damage to connector shells when performing wire maintenance. With 50 year old wiring, having the right tool for the right job, along with a few other alternative tools will ensure you can get the work done in a timely manner. Overall it is a mixed bag working with the wiring in our cars. The insulation is far superior to what is in my 71 F-250 - there are times I strip wire on that poor truck and the copper already has some verdigris on it. The mid-70's passenger car wiring is not necessarily what I would call good, but it is better than the previous generation which is what my pickup would have in it (as well as my 66 Chrysler 300, that also has miserable wiring). |

go back a bit more like 40's and 50's wiring...that stuff was terrible
