Well I might, I'm looking into it. What I have is 1973 power steering, what I want (maybe) is manual steering. I did some searching and didn't see what I'm looking for, so here's the question: Are the centerlink and idler arm the same for both power and manual in 1973 ? I know the box and the pittman are different.

The Ford parts catalog shows only one listing for the idler arm and center link, so you are good. You should just need the steering box and pitman arm. I am pretty sure Rockatansky did this conversion as well, so he might have some additional insight. |

i sourced the gear box from Blue Oval 6079 parts when they had a website, looks like they're only selling on ebay now? i found a rebuild tutorial online, seals from a local bearing house. the grease is specific-ish, they said you want the basic drum brake wheel bearing grease not any latest & greatest stuff. an inch-pound torque wrench is needed to check the preload Edited by Rockatansky - 12-December-2024 at 2:07PM |

I want to say thanks for the help ! I'd like to keep my power setup just in case I don't like the manual steer, then I could switch back. I'm a ways off from the swap though.
