The old Falcon couldn't meet the new safety standards for Jan 1 1970, which is why it was discontinued. For whatever reason, Ford felt the need to have a stop gap price leader for 6 months. The Torino body was much larger than the Falcon, so I am not sure how many old Falcon buyers would have bought the new Torino based Falcon. There were a handful of 429 powered Falcons made, which would be a the ultimate stripper sleeper. IIRC, there was a member of the Fairlane club that had a big block 70 1/2 Falcon.
