I was poking around under the hood today to wire up my electric choke, and I found a burned up wire when I pealed off some electrical tape.

The wire itself is connected to the sta post of the alternator (the sta wire also has a factory y off into a different set of wires).

Burned wire goes to this connector on the passenger side of the engine bay:

The only non-burned wire in this set connected to anything is the red one that runs to the starter solenoid.  Other end goes to the empty harness shown below

What wire have I burned up?  Could I solder in a modern fuse holder instead, if so, any idea what size fuse? ( Blue block on the wire says "fusible link 20 ga")

Edit: the car still starts fine, so I'm not sure how long this may have been burned out for before I found it today, possible it's been this way for years!

Have you looked at the wiring diagrams?

My '72 doesn't have a plug like that so I am not recognizing that wire off the top of my head.  If you can't figure it out, I will take a look at the diagrams when I have some more time.  CaliforniaJohnny is more familiar with the later Torinos, he might know.  Why not just replace it with fusible link again?

I believe the alternator's STA stud and it's wiring goes to the carb's electric choke. Here's a wiring diagram showing as such, it is from a '75 Ford shop manual but hopefully it is helpful.

Yeah, It's a Hybrid...It burns gas and tires.

A new fusable link or a maxi fuse . But FIRST !!
You have to figure out why the original fusable link
took a hit and burnt . Obviously a serious short to ground on one of the main circuits!
Find that first !
