Jay Robarge is the owner of Broader Performance and is well known as a Ford transmission guru.  He just posted this video the other day:

He says in this video a customer contacted him having issues with the valve body. The customer tells him he bought it from Summit.  Jay told the customer he doesn't sell his parts to Summit, and discovers
Speedmaster has blatantly counterfeit his valve body design and Summit was selling it! The crazy part is the Chinese counterfeit actually says Broader performance right on the valve body just like the genuine part!

I knew Speedmaster was lower end Chinese made parts, but to rip off a design from a small business is just downright wrong.  Not only did they counterfeit the part, they made it poorly and slapped his name on it, ruining his reputation while stealing his business.  I have bought parts from Jay, including a new custom torque converter I just ordered, and he is a great guy.  He makes top quality parts .  I paid more money and waited a longer time to get parts from Jay, but I am happy to support a small business and a guy with some real knowledge and talent.  Those of us with niche cars, like Torinos, need to support guys like Jay that build parts for our cars.

I will never buy Speedmaster parts after seeing this. Please take the time to watch the video and spread this around your social media.  Companies like this should be shamed.  Summit has since made the part unavailable on their site, but the are still selling many other Speedmaster parts.  Buyer beware.

that's always been their business model. seems like i've been hearing that Summit and Jeg's are now chinee controlled to some point? the speedmaster / procomp brand has crept in, Jay and every other violated entity needs to file cease & desist and sue for damages immediately. i wonder what the next iteration of speedmaster / procomp will be?

I agree, it's just too bad they ripped off Broader's design and name being such a small company. It's a lot worse in my book than ripping off another big company. Jay probably doesn't have the means to take on Speedmaster.

Update: Summit has cut ties with Speedmaster.

1972 Gran Torino station wagon, light blue, 351C 2V, prior owner upgraded to 4V (2V heads), originally had a C4 but prior owner changed to C6 for some reason.

Wow, Summit is doing the right thing!  That says a lot that they stop selling all Speedmaster parts.

Good on Summit, seems like they made things right. Pretty solid of them to replace those customers with thw counterfeit valve bodies with actual Broader parts. I am not as impressed with Jegs though.

Yeah, best to avoid Speedmaster and other big patent crooks. Most have inferior parts, which is not worth the trouble for your hard earned money.
