I have a head scratcher for all of you.  I just replaced all of the sockets for the turn signals, and tail lights on my 74 Torino.  As I was replacing sockets, I tested each one as I did the install to make sure that they were all working properly.  As i got to the last one, I had my son turn the lights on, and they all came on for about a second or so, and went out, with nothing happening after.  It looked like that there was a 15a fuse that blew for the brake lights, so I replaced it.  Still nothing anywhere.  No turn signals, no brake lights, and no running lights.  I did see on the final socket where I had wired two of the wires backwards, but I corrected that before I replaced the fuse.  Still nothing.  What's truly aggravating is that all of them were working properly until I changed out the final socket.  Then they all went south.  Is there something else that I'm missing?  I've dug through the schematics for the car and haven't found anything that could possibly be causing this.  I could just be blind as a bat too.  That's been known to happen.  Any help trying to trace this down would be tremendously helpful.

Does it have power now at the outlet side of the fuses? Try checking the fusible links, or at least finding them in the schematics. Those buried fusible links often are hard to discover unless you think of them to look.

I agree with Don.  Check the fuse box and see if you have power on the outlet side first.  Then work your from there. Did you lose any other circuits?

Got my running lights, but no brake lights or turn signals now.  Got the lights after I replaced the light switch.  It had degraded to the point that when I pulled it, the switch fell apart into about 10 pieces!  Now on to the turn signals and brake lights.  Any thoughts?

Do the hazard flashers work? That's a separate circuit path with a different flasher unit.

Also, try replacing one bulb and see if the brake/flasher works on that, in case something happened that blew the high filament on all the bulbs.

I’ll try the hazard flasher as soon as I can.  Life has been a little crazy the past few days.

Update:  I replaced the turn signal switch, nothing from the hazards, turn signals, or brake lights consistently.  I unfortunately have to replace the ignition switch next.  I found where if I messed with the switch a bit, my lights would come on and work properly.  So, thats next on my list.  I pulled the old switch off and did find a bit of corrosion and crud in the switch.

It's been a hot minute since I've posted a follow up on this crazy mess.  I finally have had some time to get back out and work on the lighting issues I've got, and I'm really scratching my head.

I've sat down with my meter and started checking voltages.  I have 12V all the way to the turn signal switch!  However, I don't have anything for my brake lights or turn signals.  I'm really scratching my head, as there should be power going to the lights.  I've checked all the grounds that I can find and they seem to be good.  I've got power at the fuse panel, and past it for those circuits.  So, I'm a little stuck...

HELP!!  LOL!!

Do you have 12 volts going out of the turn signal switch?  Did you check all the connections to see if you have 12 volts?  You got to be losing power somewhere along the line. Was the turn signal switch new or used?  Ford part or aftermarket?

I havent had a chance to pull the switch itself and get to the connector properly.  I was able to find the input line and poke a pinhole in it to get a reading on it.  I will pull the connector so i can see what i'm getting on the output side of the switch.

Its a new switch, but aftermarket.  I picked it up from Rock Auto about a year ago or so.

Thanks for your help!

Small chance, but i also had no brake or tail lights, It ended up being a broken spade terminal right at the fuse block. Might be worth a quick look.

I have more info.  I have power to the turn signal switch as long as I have my meter on the body directly.  If I put it on the ground wire at the switch, nothing, which tells me I have a bad ground somewhere.  The question I have is where exactly is it grounded at?

turn signals and all the lights ground at the bulb sockets, you have power coming into the switch thru the flasher when you move the switch to the right or left to power that side the switch breaks contact for the brake light at that time to allow the bulb to flash but still has constant power to the other side if you step on the brake... hope that makes sense

The strange thing is this:  all the lights work if I turn the light switch on.  So I know the ground for the lights themselves are good, and all the lights are good.  It looks like a bad ground under the dash or at the fuse block, as I have multiple circuits doing the same kinda thing.  And when I checked at the turn signal switch, using my meter, i had power at the connector if i put my ground lead on the body itself.  If i used the ground wire on the connector, nothing.  Again, leading me to think theres a bad ground under the dash or at the fuse block.

Ford placed main grounds in various places in the vehicles. Common points are the two kick panels, the radiator support, the dash frame, and a couple in the trunk. I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with the older Fords anymore.

Newer Fords have those main ground points using a green headed 8mm bolt, easy to spot in newer Fords. But regardless, there are typical ground bolts placed in the chassis in a few places. Look around and find those, there may be corrosion on them or they've been loosened to add to them, and the connections aren't good.

There are ground wires in the trunk on the harness I think on the rear bulkhead cross piece. At least I think there is.
With these cars at 50+ years now, it could be corrosion between the ground wire and the body metal.

IN the dash harness, there are assorted grounds. A lot of them tie to the lower metal piece on the bottom of the dash that acts as a stiffener for the dash plastic. There is also the large support rod from the firewall to the bottom of the dash.

Ground wire from the harness near the headlight switch.

You may have old wiring grounding out as well if the fuses keep blowing.
