I was just curious if anyone had any good pictures of our cars (with slight emphasis on montegos) with stripes.
The reason I am asking, is cause I am tossing around the idea of putting some form of subtle flat black stripes on my car someday. I found this pic online but can't really find anything else. I am just looking for ideas, since I have no imagination whatsoever. ![]() |

This car has the chrome strip running along the top of the fender. Maybe you could do something like this with a painted stripe?

I like the looks of the stripe along the top of the fender. It kind of shows off the body lines. I'm still having a hard time figuring out if I like the hood stripes on that green montego though.

Ya, caught that after I posted, I was thinking Cougar since there is one in a nearby yard with the same trim on the fenders. |

Gary, now you see my dilemma on my '68. Want something different, yet have that blasted vinyl roof to contend with. Checking online will give you some ideas.
The '72-'76 Montego/'74-'76 Cougars have a fantastic upper bodyline that lends itself well to that stripe. Torinos don't. |

Yea. I said that sounds like a move i would make letting it sit until i can figure out what color i want. then once i figure that out i can tell who ever paints it if i want stripes or not. I was looking at pearl white now I'm looking at different blacks and grays with different stripes. Who knows might have it painted like one of Alex's hot wheels...

Might get my stripe in black cherry, might get the whole car done in it, really its depending on price which I will likely do a stripe on the hood in it. Ive been looking at this color since ive found it. http://cobracountry.com/cobra4salefolder/maxwell-CSX4273/

I found this nice picture. How do you guys think a stripe combo like this would look (Hood and side). My car was originally Dark Blue Metallic so I might go with the blue color below. Again, just ideas... ![]() ![]() |

Boy, I really like that blue one as-is. Clean and understated but gets the job done. Not a big fan of the yellow car's scheme. Seeing that flat black on the lowers reminds me of folks that cover up rust with black paint and hope you buy it before noticing.

I will probably go with the blue, but what do you think of the hood stripe. Its hard to see. How do you think a flat black hood stripe would look (like the gray one above on the blue monty). And possibly a black pinstripe down the side similar to the yellow one. (although I am just using the yellow one as an example for the pinstripe. Just pretend it is on blue.) I don't really want the stripes to stand out too much (hence the black on blue, or something similar.) I just want it to have a subtle look about it.

if you went with the dark blue or black cherry you could do the stripes in a purple pearl ( no more than about 1/4 teaspoon of pearl mixed into about a 1/2 of a quart of clear coat ready to spray (with clear, catalyst ,etc). as far as side stripes i would suggest just something along the lower panel just between the wheelwells (behind front tire to the front of the rear tire) something like the stripes on a shelby gt 350 mustang. the upper stripe on the yellow car just don't go with the hood stripes IMO

it's hard to describe what pearl looks like, it shows up best over black, dark blue or dark maroon (like that black cherry) paint. basically you don't see it until you look at it at a different angle in the sun or bright light, does that make sense? some people have pearl flames painted on their car so that it is real subtle (you can't see it until the light hits it just right, you may hear people refer to them as "ghost flames " that effect is pearl if you seen something like that.
hope that helps. do you have an automotive paint supply store near you? many times they may have small panels painted for display that you could look at. |
