where can I find the casting numbers on a 302? I want to ID the 302 so I know exactly what I am dealing with. according to the previous owner it is suppose to be a 69 302 from a mustang so I should find a casting number reading something close to C9ZE-****-*

Thanks blueoval, crawled up under the car, just enough room to squeeze under with out jacking it up and took a look. after some brake cleaner and a bush to clean the gunk off i found the numbers.
C8AE-6015-A and another number i think it read, 8O22. so this is not a 69 motor but a 68. its a 68 ford engine and its an original engine. The 8O22 would be the date code correct? so October 22, 1968 would be the date it was cast at the foundry? so how can I determine what it came out of?? |

A late 1968 code tells me 1969 car. They usually changed over in summertime. You wouldn't see an October 1968 engine in a 1968 car if the car was built in what, as late as July or August? By October they were building 69's...

yup August 68 is a 69. Same for most years... August is the usually the cut off. SOME are also cut off in July making them the next year as well.
