Yes. You can work with the suspension and make your own adjustments to get it "close". One thing I always do is mark where the original positions were of the upper A-arm bolts (and also the length of the inner/outer tie rods if you are replacing those) as a guide. It will not be perfect, but it will get you in the ballpark.
Adjust more as necessary and drive slowly to you preferred shop with the alignment capabilities.

yes and if you leave the control arms attached to the car, you can probably skip the alignment.

yup what Mike said.Ball joints will not do much to throw it off unless you take the control arms off.
THEN you just mark it like Scott mentioned and it will get you close enough to drive |

Should I use the parking brake when replacing the ball joints or does that interfere with taking off the caliper?

It shouldn't the parking brakes go to the rear drums. Never trust your tranny or the parking brakes, chalk those rear wheels.
As far as a brand goes, I started work at advance auto parts for the discount and have been doing some comparing and checking around. Moog compared to driveworks is a huge difference, MOOG all the way plus they have a three year warranty(Sometimes limited lifetime depending on their parts) as compared to driveworks only have one year. Oddly enough you usually end up replacing driveworks joints at about that time the warranty goes up. Hope that helps
