Does anyone know if the outer half of the rear fender wells on a 72/73 Montego is the same for a 72/73 Gran Torino?

Thanks for the reply Dan. Have you ever harvested these and replaced rusted ones with them before? Didn’t know how big of a pain it is rather than just patching the lips on the rusted ones.

I have harvested them back in the late 80's (lot of work) but with all the cool battery operated tools the job should be much easier. Spot weld removal tool is a must. Or have the yard cut them out for you.

ease your mind if it's aftermarket it's not really from a chevelle
just to be clear are you talking about the outer wheel house or the quarter panel? |

I been looking for aftermarket wheelhouse from another car that is close. I been told 67-68 Mustang, 71-73 Mustang and even certain year Chevelles will work. But I’m still looking for first hand testimony from someone who found something that works.

Timberice,I need to know the answer to this too. I found a very old link indicating that the 71-73 Mustang outer wheelhouse can be used with the some pie cuts and rewelding.
Has anyone confirmed this? This is the last major bodywork task I am facing (LH side). I found a reasonably decent Torino (1974) RH side to use, but he LH is just not good enough shape. These a royal pain to replace without removing the whole quarter panel IMO. Randy 72GTS Fastback

I guess I will find out this weekend how well or how badly a 71-73 Mustang outer wheelhouse fits. I should have one in my hands tomorrow. It has to be better than the mess I have now.
I will take some pictures and update progress or lack thereof. Randy |

I got an inner/outer set from Desert Valley Auto a couple years ago, don't remember the price exactly but think it was 6-700 shipped, might be an option since they probably wouldn't take as much fabrication.

The 71-73 Mustang outer wheelhouse is probably not the best option. The front to back measurement at the bottom is just about perfect, but the arch is pretty much semicircular while the Torino is more flattened at the top for a few inches in the center. The Mustang is deeper as well so trimming is going to be needed (maybe a couple of inches) near the mounting flange. I guess the Torino picks up more of its total wheelhouse width on the inner section rather than the outer. I am going to use the back section and weld it into the existing good metal of my original. Will make it fit and work. I looked at 67/69 Mustang pictures regarding the shape of the wheel arch and they seem a little more flattened on the top, but hard to say if it would be any better than the 71.

Well in that case I've got a 78 Thunderbird with perfect quarters and tubs, I'm in SW MI. You can have it for $300.
