Thank you for letting me join your site. I'm a new member located in Southern Illinois near St. Louis, Mo. I currently own a 1972 Ranchero GT w/ a 400M and a C6 Trans. I purchased it from a friend whose brother parked it in 1984. He recently passed away in June of 2021. The family knew I had inquired about it the last few years and I made a deal on it in July of 2021. It's 90 to 95% rust free. The engine has a cracked cyl. head, finding out now, why it was parked. When I was 19 yrs. old, I had a 1972 GTS w/ a 351C, auto. And I always wanted a 72 Ranchero. 46 yrs. later, I acquired one. It's never too late, I guess!

Thank you, Randy Haukap

welcome! i know the feeling... it took me 38 years to finally get a C3 vette, and almost as long to get a gran torino.
cracked head isn't too bad ... you have some options, i believe aluminum heads are available for the 400 or find a decent used iron heads and have them rebuilt

Welcome to the forum! I have upgraded you to a full member so you have full forum privileges. John is right that there are some aluminum heads, like Trickflow 351C heads.  Or you can get a set of 351C 2V heads. I'd avoid the 351M or 400 heads made 1975 or later. Post some pics of your Ranchero.

I found a set of 351C heads. I also had to replace the block. It rusted so bad from antifreeze sitting in the cyl. for 37+ years. It's at the engine builder now. It's a shame because it's a number matching car... truck... I will post pictures as soon as I figure out how. Thanks all!

Thanks for all of the warm welcomes. Here or some pictures of when I got my Ranchero in July. The first stop was the car wash, and then on home.

Excellent, I love it!

What does the grille emblem say on it, I can't tell in the pictures? I've collected bits of a couple to make one, and found out along the way that there were at least two sizes, plus various lettering.

What a sweet looking machine. Welcome aboard and get a project thread going. Is the engine original? On the head that is cracked, can you see it? Was it from freezing?
My condolences to you and your friend's family.

Thank you for the compliments. The grill emblem is from a 1973. It was mounted in the center. It doesn't fit correctly. It had 2 spots cut out of the grill. I've since removed it, repaired the grill and I'm planning on repainting it when I find the 2 colors of argent grey.
The block and r/s head are correct, the left head was replaced at one time. The car only has 98410 miles on it. I don't think it froze. It had strong enough antifreeze in it. It was cracked between the valves on #8 cyl.  I'll try to upload some more pictures and post them later.
Is there anyone would have the 3 female and 1 male seat belts in black for a Ranchero? I have the shoulder and both of the retractors.
Thank You. Randy

Well done Randy, you have a great platform to work with, complete is easier to handle than a parts mess(one of mine).

I saw that the early grille emblem mounted to the center, but I didn't know which models that was for etc. I like the smaller later versions, I think it will go on like the normal emblems did, offset in one side.

Here' a used one that's on eBay now if you might like the Ranchero GT version. There have been a few before when I was hunting. I hadn't seen this one, which has a small crack in the clear plastic cover part.

This is what a new one looked like, an NOS picture I saved.

That grille look good Randy, it should look great with new paint.

I found out the older emblems were larger when I got that one in hand(same part number), from eBay. It's a little larger in size than the later ones, about 1974 and to 1979 are almost 3/4" smaller than that.

Thanks. This one doesn’t fit the grill. I guess that’s why it was cut out in the center. I’m going to leave it off until I can find the correct one.

Very good. The later smaller versions are thinner and should fit right up to the grille, on the flat parts. I think that big one is for the center of the later grilles, which are almost flat across the middle.
