I have been a torino fan for a while now. I currently have a 73 sport and just picked up two 72 torinos. One Q code sport project, one h code coupe. The Coupe runs and drives well, but holds a salvage title. The sport had most of the body work done, but shop closed  and did not complete it. Also kept a lot parts, seats, bumpers, misc body panels ect. Wondering if I should use the coupe to complete the sport or just try finding the parts to complete sport.

Welcome, and are the 72's both Gran Torino's, or the Torino base model?

I suggest fixing the Sport which I'm guessing is the 73, and swap the 72 Gran Torino front end onto it. Then you can hunt a 72 Gran Torino Sport hood, and bolt that onto the 72 front end.

The Torino was a lowly base model, very rare and low production, most people considered it ugly, thus the low production numbers. The other 72-76's are Gran Torino's, which is what most people have among those. Ford slowly changed the names or added names to them, the Gran Torino Elite, then it became the Elite, then the LTD II etc. They (plus the Montego, Cougar, and Thunderbird) shared the same chassis and interior platform, you can swap most parts among them. Items like the doors and fenders changed along with the name changes generally.

Please post some pictures when you can, we love the eye candy, rough or clean, it's all cool to see.

You can build any one of them, but of course it's best to begin with the most solid car, with a clear title etc.

If you see a box with an X in it you have to backspace it to make it disappear. Then follow the sticky.

I apologize, your member status wasn't upgraded correctly. It is now, so you should be good to upload pics.

Ditto, most common body shops concentrate on work from dealers, or insurance companies, or regular people. The special care needed for really nice projects, you have to hunt the shops that cater to those, which are very rare anyway. Thus they are almost always very high, and then they vary a bunch in quality, speed, and customer care and integrity.

Most new shops and lots of the regular ones want to move up to the specialty customer. But they do a poor job of the change from basic body and paint work, to the near perfection needed for really nice cars.
