Ok. Thanks. Someone drilled a hole for a bolt then. The other studs are not in great condition. Can they be removed and changed?

this is the Dorman number that pops up on Rockauto for our exhaust manifolds but there may be longer studs available so check what length will work for you, and verify the method of obtaining that measurement. or you may be able to source some locally?

Tip, just barely brake loose all related bolts before fully loosening any of them. The extra pressure from having some bolts out adds slightly to the others.

are you working the bolts back & forth (tight / loose) and lubing as you go?
1st move should be in the tight direction, then check it in the loose direction. smack the bolt head with a hammer and test each direction again. a 1/2" breaker bar with a quality 6 point socket is the way to go, a metric socket that fits tight beats a loose inch socket every day of the week Edited by Rockatansky - 27-July-2022 at 11:36AM |

A six point with the little grooves at the angles will be the best bet adding to what Rock posted. Especially if they are slightly rounded off.

Those socket and wrenches with the rounded corners used to be a Snap-On invention. Now even the cheap China tools have them.

radiused corners don't really help the bolt come loose, Snap-Off patent was to reduce stress risers and broken sockets/warranty costs. They have dazzled everyone with bullsh*t about "Flank drive" for years.

I was very careful during the operation. Yes….I slightly tightened first….then loosened…back and forth…carefully…used a full can of wd40 type fluid.
The last bolt was just unlucky. The bolt looked different than the others. Greyish burnt and rough.

If I am unable to find a right side manifold…..what is a good way to fix the drilled hole for the stud? Ideas welcome.
The manifold looks really good otherwise.. |

There are repair items made to replace a broken and seized stud etc. Find those and see if they will fit onto that one side. The one I'm thinking of is like a pair of steel bars that attach by long bolts of their own, sandwiching the ear of the collector and lower flange. Kind of like a clamp, it squeezes the old flanges(the small section where the bolt is) together with the down pipe flange. They are on Amazon and I think they were about a $25 item. I believe it requires a decent flat surface on both parts to clamp onto, but you can grind and file down that worn hole area to do that.

That's a large variety of repair solutions for broken or stripped manifold studs and bolts. This is the type I was thinking of. I thought it clamped the two parts together, but it just replaces the manifold stud with an interesting loop of steel;

Get a straight torch tip and burn out the stud. Tap the threads. Put the rest of the bolts back in first. If the manifold hasn't moved, it will still be sealed to the head.

its drilled out...i's rethread it, or if needed drill it larger and helicoil it to the correct size, or since there's room use a bolt that is long enough to go down towards the pipe (grind part of the bolt head to fit against the manifold)

Run a tap and use a heli-coil (there is a better coil replacement system but I forget the name). That setup will work but you already have the manifold out so why not do the other one as well?
