Hello,
I have a 1969 Torino with an 8" differential, 3.00 open spool. The PO threw in a 9" housing and spool, also 3.00 open, and I believe they're both 28 spline. Both housings are the same width (54-1/4" face to face) and the spring mount dimensions match, so the 9" housing should bolt right in. Unfortunately, the 9" didn't come with axles.

My question is, will the axles from the 8" fit the 9" or do I need to source a new pair? If I need to buy new axles, I'm assuming the lengths will be the same as the 8"? I've searched but haven't been able to find axle length info anywhere.

Thanks in advance.

my understanding the axles are the same as long as same spline. you'll still need to make sure your flanges match for the brake backing plates and bearing retaining plates to match up. also check tube diameter for seal fitment and verify bearing OD. by 'spool' do you mean the 3rd member? often referred to as a 'chunk' or a 'pig' because it looks like a pig's head in profile

Yup, I was referring to the 3rd member. Thanks for the input!
