I wanted to post up some info regarding the stock mechanical linkage for 1972, 1973 and 1974 models.

Key items with be the information from the 1972 Ford service manual.
Sections 16-03-01 through 16-03-09 under Part 16-03 Mechanical Clutch Linkage

This will include adjustment of free travel, clutch pedal assist spring, Equalizer Bar (commonly called "Z bar" and clutch adjustments.

I am also going to bring up the conversion aspect if you swapped a manual transmission like the Tremec TKX into one of the 72-79 intermediates. I started a reference but as a reminder on the clutch package, generally you are going to want to make sure you update your car with a modern style Diaphragm type clutch kit where the pressure plate uses multiple fingers instead of the OEM 1970's truck clutch that was common from the era with the "3 finger" type pressure plate.

I've heard it also referred to as the "long" style clutch but for this situation I'm merely going to say diaphragm or 3 finger OEM for simplicity.

If you are converting or updating a Toploader 4 speed car to a Tremec TKX, or older TKO series, you will want to remove the factory assist spring off the factory 3/4 speed column support.
This spring is no longer needed and all it'll wind up doing is sticking to the floor occasionally and making things problematic. Ask me how I know!

With that added, I want to also post up the info from the Ford service manual for reference. I've not seen this posted and I occasionally send these images out to folks so they have the reference info:
