I just determined that 60%+ of all my steering joints are shot.
It’s a 71Torino 500 with power steering and power brakes. Where is the goto place for these parts? Are there any upgrades or improvements to be had in this area?

There are some disc brake conversion kits to upgrade your brakes: Or performance oriented kits: For steering parts, I have used Moog in the past to rebuild front ends, but I don't know if they are the same quality they once were. PST offers kits too. Lares offers a faster than stock steering box: |

Do you or does anyone else know if the two control valve hoses are identical and if the ones that came on the Mustangs and other models are all the same?

Check with these guys:
They specialize in front brake, suspension & steering parts for Mustangs & mid-sized Fords. I used Moog & Scott Drake for parts when I redid my stock front suspension (control arms w/ball joints, tie rod ends). I used some roller spring perches from e-bay. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by schufitz - 02-June-2025 at 4:22AM |

Wow! That looks fantastic. What is that lower spindle? Mind ballparking what you spent on the parts alone?

Thanks. The spindles are factory, just cleaned up with brass brushes and degreaser. I bought the items 'piecemeal' over a period of time and finally tackled the job last summer. I probably spent close to a grand all added up. That includes the roller perches, the SD lower arms (they have the 'tabs' and silver paint), an internal spring compressor tool, joint breaker tool & pickle fork for the ball joints. I got Detroit Eaton springs but used the originals as the DE ones seemed too 'beefy' and would have most likely worsened the reverse rake the 68/69's seem to have. Full kits are available a bit cheaper as noted in a reply above, but piecemeal is just the route I went. Good Luck in whatever you decide. I did get PS hoses from Choko-stang and the ram & valve, but have yet to tackle that project.

Did you build your internal spring compressor or purchase it?
