Hi, there! I'm new to the group looking for some guidance. My Father's 1972 Gran Torino Sport is in need of a used scoop hood. I've been told from several that the rust is just too bad to salvage the original. If anyone has any leads I would greatly appreciate it! My email is DancinTexn02@aol.com! I live in South Texas, but will pay for arrangements if one is found! Thank y'all so much!

Grafting it onto a flat hood is how people get them for 1973-76 cars.
For a good hood, you'd be looking at $500-$800 plus whatever it costs to get it from its location to you by shipping or by a road trip to fetch it.

Ditto. The old age corrosion of the hinges and the hood creates weak spots along the side just forward of the hinges. Take great care of the hinges, keep them clean and lubricate them often enough so they operate easily.

Only a hood from a 72 torino will fit a 72, without a lot of cutting and welding. Ever think of a fiberglass one, it would be under $600, I think from usbody in Florida.

You are right, I forgot that when I posted above. Fixing any weakness in a stock hood is likely only possible if it's very minor damage, not a big bend in the side structure. Another hood may be used for a repair section, but that would take some high skill to do, plus a good chunk of labor.

there's something different about the latch in the 72 hood, i tried to fit a 73 hood to my 72 and the latch would not catch. so even if you did the cosmetic work to the leading edge, the under structure / latch is different, only a 72 hood will work with the 72 latch AFAIK. i don't remember if i tried a later style cable op latch assy or not, i was rushed for time & had to swap the 72 hood back on & get going

Not just the latch but the front edge and header, 72 is only for 72. I ran into the same problem 20 years ago. Time doesn't always fix things, it is was it is.

If you are still looking for a hood, I have one that is in good shape. Its not perfect but it's complete. I'll take 300 for it. I can get pics later today if your interested.
