Hi Gang,

I bought a 72 Torino Sport fastback close to a year ago and finally took delivery of her this weekend (long story, please don’t ask).

I spent the weekend assessing the old girl and she’s got good bones. She needs a fair amount of work but definitely restorable and in the 11 months that I’ve been waiting to bring her home I’ve already sourced a bunch of parts.

Some of them from members in here……

The 351 that came original with the car was locked up so I bought a 1971 460 from the same guy I bought the car from, and the engine is in great shape.

Of course I’ll either need the modified engine mounts that are made specifically for the 351 to 460 engine swap specifically for the 1972 model year Torino’s, or (from what many of you guys in here say) I’ll just have to source some 460 engine mounts that came on a Lincoln Mark, or a few other 1970’s ford model cars that came with 460 engines.

This post is specifically about the exhaust manifolds.

I really don’t want to put headers on this car. I don’t want the clearance, or heat shielding, or header pipe bending, or re-routing of brake lines, or steering box clearance headaches that come along with headers, plus I’m not looking to build race car.

There’s a guy that has a YouTube channel called “Black Lab Garage” and he seems very knowledgeable about all things Ford 460.

In one of his videos (that I’ll post below) he claims that the Ford Truck 460 exhaust manifolds have 2.5 outlets, and that they're a good option if you can’t afford, or don’t want headers.

(go straight to time stamp 14:15 for the discussion on exhaust manifolds)

I’m inclined to agree with the man, but I’ve searched, and searched, and searched everywhere and I can’t find any information on the exhaust manifolds he’s talking about or showing in the video.

Everything I’m seeing says that all Ford 460 engine exhaust manifolds have the same size outlets, regardless of what the application was for the motor, or what type of vehicle it went into.

I’m just looking for some guidance here. Do such exhaust manifolds exist, and if so, where can I find them?

If such an animal doesn’t exist, is there a particular small size header that will bolt up to the block and not cause me to do acrobatics and tons of customization & modifications to make them fit/work?

I’ve attached a pic of the old girl sitting in her new home in the garage, and one from where she was sitting when I bought her.

As usual, any & all answers are welcome.

you might find some insight by cross referencing Y pipes or down pipes?

FWIW Summit lists a bunch of 460 exhaust manifolds but the 1 i clicked on didn't specify outlet size
