Wondering if everyone that has current relevant
information about the FMX transmission as far as parts available , suppliers, small businesses that cater to these , specific rebuilders , and performance parts and upgrades could share their information. There was just a thread yesterday about swapping out transmissions to another model and all the problems that will arise when doing that . I have an FMX and want to retain it and build it for a decent HP street car . Any thing anyone can share just about the FMX would be great to have ! I’m in Minnesota, any recommendations on transmission rebuilders that know the FMX ? Thanks everyone |

as far as parts available it's true there really isn't much. catalog / shelf stock TQ converters if you're lucky and a couple shift kits but that's OK. any real transmission builder worth his salt can build an FMX to provide clean crisp shifts and last another 1/2 century. all the basic principals apply, slightly increase pump / line pressure, reduce accumulator spring pressure and recalibrate the valve body with the shift kit. you can drill the drums for lightening or just to allow oil to escape, remove the wave and add a clutch or 2. coincidentally the FMX and AOD share the same size clutches & steels so modern materials are available. Kolene, Kevlar, Red Alto clutches, Raybestos Blue Plate clutches all kinds of modern goodies available in various thicknesses so the builder can build a custom clutch pack
1st step is to find out if your FMX is a candidate to be rebuilt, a good report card on the condition of your hard parts is pretty important as replacements are hard to find these days. then there's the other side of the coin some guys can't give away a complete 'worked when pulled' FMX Edited by Rockatansky - 25-November-2023 at 6:52AM |

You could ask on the Ford transmission forum. There are a few experts there that might know, although that forum seems to have kind of died. |

Thanks for the reply and information on the FMX !!
I remember back in 1981 rebuilding my first FMX , bought a FAIRBANKS “ STREETACTION” Torque converter for it . It’s a shame the aftermarket has forgotten about that and a lot of other older engines / transmission applications!! It will take some digging but I am sure I can get a stout FMX built yet today !
