Hi Copper73,

I replaced the rubber seals on my 1973 Gran Torino - I listed the suppliers that I leveraged:

I didn't replaced the felts, another forum member may be able to help you there.

Thanks,
Chris

As far as weather seals, Denis Carpenter Reproductions makes the weather seals for our cars.
A few years back, there were significant issues of the Formal Roof and Sportsroof rear glass rubber seal being mixed up.

As far as the belt line moldings, the ones on the market are no where near correct for 72-73 cars. Can't say on 74-76 cars but they are not made correctly, from the Repops company that makes the belt line moldings.
This is my experience circa 2009-2010 timeframe when I was building my '72 GTS. I found good clean pieces on a 72 sitting at a u-pull-it yard.

I bought a set of the belt line weather strip molding off of ebay about 5 or 6 years ago for my 73' and they did not fit very well. The ad said it was for 72 through 76 gran torino but I wasn't very impressed with them. It would be nice if someone made decent set of those weather strip that fits our cars better.

Hi,
I'm new to the forum, but not to the problems getting parts...

I bought a 73 Torino Base Model 4 door pillared hardtop in 2018. It was missing a lot of parts, among them door seals on 3 out of 4 doors. I figured that door seals for a 73 2 door would fit, they would just be too long... Man I was wrong 🤦‍♀️ I sure could use some advice/better links...

But! I got the weather strip kit last fall! I was trying it on today, and my rattly drivers side door with a glass that was held in place by an old bicycle hose... suddenly went both up and down like it should! 🤩👍 I didn't replace the ones that mounts to the door panel, as it looked ok. The outer ones were not on the car at all... I will mount the rest another day, just wanted to share the link and the good news 🤩👍

Happy Easter to you from Evelyn in Norway

Evelyn, welcome to the site. I went in and updated you so should be able to post now.

Glad to see you here!

My experience with belt line moldings/seals has been a sour one. 72-73 doors use a massive belt line kit that is no where near correct, at least when I did my doors back in 2009 time frame.
I got lucky and found a set on a car at a yard that I cleaned with dish soap and a bristle brush and installed.
Aftermarket ones at the time didn’t keep the glass from rattling against the door shell.

I still have a couple factory pieces. Been meaning to see if they have ever fixed that issue.

Repops was the company at that timeframe making the belt line moldings for the 72-76 cars.

Still have two outer coupe 2 door pieces that are basically brand new in the box.

I found mine to fit - at least the outer part for my drivers side door. Maybe the ones I got in Sept 2024 was a brand new product? As I only have one door on my car that still has both inner and outer weatherstripping AND a complete door seal, I have no reference, but it fit 😁💪 My drivers side window have been completely loose, and I found an old bicycle hose and jammed it between the glass and the outer doorshell last year as it was rattling so bad I had to hold the glass while driving 🙈 I knew SOMETHING was missing, but did not realise that the chrome moulding that was still on one door only, actually was the rubber that was holding the glass in place until last fall... I haven't had license plates on it, as it's been a work in progress, but I got my plates in October 2024 👍 These days I'm trying to make it ready for the season, so wanted to mount the brand new weather stripping. And it was really a WOW-moment! I'm very happy with them, even if they were very expensive 🙈

Where did you purchase your belt line kits from?

I got my set from Ebay. The clips for the outer one (the one I needed) fit perfectly into the slots on the door 🤩 I am very happy with the fit. I have only mounted the one on the drivers side door, as the car is parked a little awkward for opening the doors enough, but that one fit perfectly. I really recommend this company and they also ship overseas to Norway, whitch has started to become a problem over the past 10 years...

So what I’m taking away from the info provided about the belt line weatherstrip pieces for 72-73 fastbacks is the ones made by Repops are not made to the same specs as OEM and guys are having problems with their side windows not sealing correctly and window rattling problems. Great! ☹️ Any other solutions besides finding NOS or good used ones? Hate to spend big money on to restore one only to have this issue.

My research found that some people state they worked great and others had issues.
The set I purchased, Repops, off ebay in 2023, were about 4 inches too short. I ended up slicing the wiper off the Repop and used weatherstrip adhesive to glue it to my worn originals. This doubled the width of the seal, but does seal nicely on the outside.

It is important to note what Eliteman said about 72 using a really wide outer seal. The repops that were supposed to fit were considerably smaller than my originals.

good luck.
