I need some help with how to properly replace a column ignition switch. I removed the column ignition lock switch on my 1973 Gran Torino Sport, AT by depressing the little pin from the inside of the column near the attachment of the shifter. There's a very little hole there and a paper clip can go in to push the pin inward. BUT, when the new switch came (see picture) it has the little pin firmly set and the pin doesn't move. The switch won't go in fully. How do you deal with that little pin? Also, is its function to keep the switch from falling out when you pull out the key? I might be overlooking the right steps to take so your help will be invaluable! Thanks!~

If i recall correctly (will google to confirm) I think you need to put the key in and rotate it to what would be the ACC position...
Yes, before installing, it needs to be in the same position as if you were removing it. You will need to repeat the process to the loose cylinder to get it to depress back in. Edited by peter.jenerette - 30-April-2025 at 12:08PM |

Turn the key back to acc and the pin should move. Spring loaded I believe. Should push in pretty easily and snap into place. Then lock the ignition and remove the key.
