I can't seem to find any information on whether a 1974 Torino 351C dual exhaust system will fit a 1976 Elite with a 351M with dual exhaust.  Does anyone know?  Can't find any Walker or AP catalogs on line. The Elite has two catalytic converters, one on each side. Thanks

You still have convertors on the 76 ?
And all the emission equipment is still functioning?
What state do you live in ?

The difference will be the down pipes, the rest behind them is the same. The 351M has a larger width than the 351C, the block is 2" taller. So the down pipes won't directly swap, but a muffler shop would likely have no trouble making it work. They'd cut the down pipes down near the floor where they turn horizontal, and shorten them slightly, and easy weld task.

Try to find the proper fitting exhaust that you want, but you could make do with other parts too if needed.

Don is spot on about the engine dimension differences. Of course as also mentioned, you have to eliminate the cats as well if your car is equipped. An exhaust shop likely could make it work or you could just have a shop do the entire exhaust from scratch.

Can you remove the catalytic converter on a car if it’s in California?
Wondering where the original poster is from ?

Find an exhaust shop that has a hydraulic mandrel
bender and they could make quick work of a nice custom exhaust system.

The OP's profile shows a Florida ZIP code.

As for California, currently, 1975 and older are smog-exempt at all times. There is currently "Leno's Law" working through the state legislature that would expand that to 1980 to start, then expanding to 1985 over five years. But smog-exempt cars from 1976 and newer would require collector car insurance (e.g. Hagerty) and historical plates, while 1975 and older would stay as they are now.

I'm not sure if I will put cats on my 73's, I can but I would only do it if I believed it would quiet the exhaust some more. I might test a pair on my for sale one and see how it is with mufflers.

I would think a pair of resonators ahead of mufflers would be
preferred method to reduce noise and harsh sounds .
Catalytic converters are meant for other reasons than sound

I know but everything reduces the volume a little. I replaced the front two cats in my work truck last year, and removed the rear two. I was surprised that it didn't get louder by cutting out the rears. Resonators are just really small mufflers, but cost just as much. I plan to make my own for my Explorer project, the type which are built into all OEM mufflers now(Helmholtz chambers). I'll see if that's possible or not.

Thanks all.  Great info.. Yes, the original cats are still bolted on.. Waldron is 6 to 8 weeks out for a system.. Local hops here want $1200 for a system.. I bought the car 3 yrs ago from original owner and drove it back to Florida.. It now resides in Massachusetts and I don't have the time or the place to work on it anymore.. (Live in a condo now)..Going to sell it as soon as the title arrives.. It's registered and I drive it daily, but with a bad exhaust system, it will not pass Mass inspection..

Yes, $1200 for a complete exhaust is a bit of a pill to swallow but that price seems to be the norm now. A couple of months ago I had a complete exhaust done on my 78 LTD ll and it was $1200 complete and taxes in. Went from single to a nice 2 1/4 system with a couple of Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers all mandrel bent. The car sure runs better and gets better fuel mileage, not to mention a nice mellow classic sound. Expensive but worth the expense and a job well done.
