Hey gang, A friend was out hot roddin his 460 Torino around and developed an engine problem. He was doing several smokey donuts when all of a sudden the engine quit and wouldn't restart. He said the coil was very hot and had no/weak spark. My initial thoughts are the ignition module has gone south. Don't know if it's it has been replaced or if it's still original. What are the thoughts of all the engine gurus on here? Thanks, JOE |

Hey gang, Turns out it was a distributor drive gear that had lost a few teeth! JOE |

Your friend should go through the engine then and possibly replace the cam. If the cam ate the drive gear then there may be other problems and metal in the engine.. I'd still look at the module and the coil as well. If there is metal in the engine, then the next time it may be a spun bearing or worse, and a smokey burnout ending in a blown motor may be heroic, but very depressing as well.. Just some thoughts,
Jim

I don't believe that came with a 460,460 wasn't avaiable in 69.you could get a 429 in 69,thats the biggest.If its a 460,someone swapped it in.No forged rods,no solid lifters,probably a smogmotor.Good one for a fresh rebuild.That motor stock maybe 260-280hp built for torque to move that heavy lincoln.
