I'm newly registered to the forum, Looking forward to being part of the community, And hoping to be able to give back As much as I'll be asking for help.
Was on a few of the Ford forums back in early 2000s when I built an 01 focus ZX3 Auto cross/ track Day car Which i'm still driving. This past friday 3/9/24 I pulled my 1968 Ford Torino GT390 out of cold storage after about 20 years sitting in a friend's garage on jack stands. I purchased it in Fayetteville. Georgia back in the early 90s drove it for quite a few years and if my memory Serves me correct. I was racing the very first throwback/ retro version of the Mustang that had just came out on the Expressway(I-94 Between eight and nine mile rd. Detroit MI) And At hi RPM proceeded to float a lifter,( bad lifter guides). And put a valve into a piston. Which thankfully, just bent the valve. After having the Cylinder head rebuilt and reinstalling Intake and head. It burnt oil like a G.D. James bond smokescreen out the tailpipe. Took it back to the shop that did the head, did Some testing and confirmed the head was done properly, as much as we could Tell. Then took it to what I thought was a very reputable performance shop and proceeded to get bent over. Royally. After that I parked it And it has sat ever since. So now I'm looking to completely go through it. Its a Completely rust free Southern car and Not exactly sure how extensive I can afford to go. The cost of building a high Horsepower 390 big block. It's just insanely expensive. I see why everybody does LS swaps. I Definitely and without question, am swapping the Existing C6 to a 4 speed top loader Or Tremec five / six speed. A full Coyote or Godzilla swap, Coil over front suspension 4 link coilover independent rear suspension, Brembo disk brakes all around It's also an insane amount of money. And A hell of a lot of fabrication work. Was also considering just selling it as is And put the Money down on a new supercharged manual trans Mustang Or Camaro zl1. Would definitely be a lot easier. A bit tough on the monthly payment. But the old school muscle car guy in me Says no f**kn way. Lots of Decisions to be made... Any of you guys see, the Glendale Mecum auction this weekend? Full custom 69 Torino, Talladega. From the Fast & Furious franchise just sold for $440K. Complete bad a** build... that Boss 429 HOLY ****
