If I have a 275/60 tire on the back, on a 15x8.5, how wide should the front rim be with a 245/60 tire to have a similar sidewall bulge?

compare the recommended wheel widths for the 275 and 245 tires, if you're in the middle on the 275 then pick a wheel that's in the middle for the 245. if you're on either end of the limits, pick a similar wheel width for the 245. it's called Section Width

I have 245/60s on a 8" wide wheel and there isn't much sidewall bulge compared to 275/60-15s I had run on a 8" wide wheel. I'd guess you would be close with a 245/60-15 on a 7" wide wheel.  Rock's advice above would probably help confirm this.

275 mm = 10.8" on a 8.5" wheel, difference is 2.3" ?

245 mm = 9.6" - 2.3"= 7.3" right between 7" and 7.5"

consider that the 275 will have more sidewall height to bulge because the 60 aspect ratio is based on width, the 245 will have less sidewall but is proportionate to the 275 both being 60's. another way to look at it the 30 mm difference in tire width = 1.18", closer to 1" than 1.5" but still darn close to the middle. what kind of tires are you running, different tires / different construction they have different section profiles. some tires bulge a lot more than others and some are just kind of straight, do your 275's bulge quite a bit, are they about normal or straight in the profile?

more bulge, 7" wheel, less bulge 7.5" wheel

Thanks guys. These are 245/60 tires. The previous owner told me the wheels are 8.5 wide, but I have not confirmed this. I have a set of 8.5 wide Ansen Sprints. The rears will have the 275/60 tires. I may try the 7 inch wides for the front.
