Alright some more new-jack questions for you guys. I've gotten a little confused. There seems to be such a difference in price ranges for the gt's! Obviously I realize numbers matching cars are worth more, and of course I know the verts are worth way more. But what options among the 70-71 GT's can make their price fluctuate the way they do? Besides the engine too, (I may be a newjack but I know the obvious stuff
 )

here is a quick tip on engine vin codes if you dont know: M code is 4bbl 351c 285 or 300hp
C or J code is 429 cobra jet
N code is 429 thunder jet.
these are the ones that are 2-3 times higher in prices than F (302) or H (351 2v) code cars. they are far more common. add a four speed and its another 75-100% price hike.
that last thing is rust. almost no restoration body parts are available. so if it needs serious metal work, it will be cheaper.
as far as options, nothing adds real value except for a shaker hood, hideaway headlights, and bucket seats/console.

this is helpful, thank you, but, taking this right off the main page... "428 SCJ Equipped? The 428 SCJ with Ram Air (VIN code R) and without Ram Air (VIN code Q). you cant get a 428 cj in a 70-71.
but yes, a 429cj and a 429scj can be a c or j code. it just depends on if the drag pack was ordered turning the car into a scj. C code cars are rarer, not necessarily more valuble though.

that was what 69 torinos got. the 428cj in 1970 was only used in the mustang. I believe the 428cj was costlier to produce. 428 and 429 are completely different engine families and share no parts other than the oil filter

okay new question, if someone says theres a 428 in a torino, but doesnt specify its a CJ, or say its code, I should assume its not a cj right?
ALSO, maybe you could shed some light on this...why is THIS 71 gt not selling for crap? its one of those examples that confuses me...

you cant get a non cj 428 in a torino unless somebody put it in later.
that gold torino, hasnt hit reserve yet, so its hard to say what it will sell for. i would guess its value and will sell for 5 grand mark. its solid but does need some work. it has a common engine tran combo.

sounds kind of hard to MAKE anything off restoring a 71 gt unless they have some pretty good options...I mean, I want to restore a NICE 71 for myself, not to sell, but it almost seems better to spend 3k or so and get one thats halfway there lol.
now this confuses me a bit: according to this EXTREMELY useful layout http://www.torinocobra.com/specs.htm
the torino 500 body style didnt start until 1971, but THIS guy on craigslist says hes selling a 1970 Torino with the 500 body style. Am I reading something wrong? The car looks okay so I asked him some questions, put my name at the top of the list (just in case)
Thoughts on that car?

thats not the 500 body. the torino 500 looks like a GT or cobra ( fastback)
that craigslist car is just a formal roof torino or fairlane.
definately buy as rust free car as you can afford. mechanicals are cheaper and easier in the long run nowadays

That gold Gt is somewhat of an odd ball as far as I am concerned because of the standard column shift.
Maybe not to some of the veteran ford guys but for me, I have never seen that before! |

It is NOT as easy as I originally thought it would be to find a good restoration project on a 70-71 gt...I mean, I know theyre OUT there, but some are rediculously expensive, and others..well...the unibody is shot!
I'm still trying though
. Ive only been at it a few months. I'm confident that in time I'll find one....just gotta keep at it, and check jaxed like a HAWK! |

Call Alex at 619-302-4450, he had a pretty nice one(don't remember if it was 70 or71)and I think he had a good price on the car. It had a 351,shaker hood, ram air, auto and was in real nice condition. I get all my 68 parts from him and he has very fair prices and parts for just about anything FORD or Mercury. John
