On the rear drum brakes, the wheel cylinder diameter can affect brake pressures.
Been a while but you need to make sure you stick to the same diameter because it can affect brake pedal pressure and brake pedal performance because the master cylinder bore size changes for the police spec cars.

You will best off to refer to Rayobestos and application guides.
RockAuto.com lists out the wheel cylinder size data.

Likely, you have a non-police package if it's a Gran Torino Elite.
I expect the diameter of the piston is 0.906"
7/8" is 0.875" diameter
15/16" police specs are 0.9375" diameter

Local parts stores can also cross these parts over.

RAYBESTOS WC37267  Info
Rear Left; Fastback; Hardtop; 2 door; without Police Package
RAYBESTOS WC37267 Specifications
Cylinder Bore Diameter (IN)0.906
RAYBESTOS WC37268  Info
Rear Right; Fastback; Hardtop; 2 door; without Police Package
RAYBESTOS WC37268 Specifications
Cylinder Bore Diameter (IN)0.906

Raybestos has a newer website that does list out part numbers. You need to search under 1974 Ford Gran Torino.

Hope this helps.
